John Leftwich 1750 – 1797
Captain John Leftwich was born in 1750 and died February 26, 1797 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. It is not known when he moved from Virginia to Georgia. He served in the Revolutionary War. Research has revealed that he left several children, including one unborn, at the time of his death, including at least three sons.
There is a Bedford County Virginia Chancery Case – Jabez Leftwich v. William Leftwich, etc. – dated 1806 – where Jabez is trying to purchase a 300 acre tract of land from the estate of his father, Augustine Leftwich. The case states that John is deceased at the time of the dispute and list his children as follows:
1. Joel Washington Leftwich
2. James Hurt Leftwich
3. Polly Leftwich
4. Rebecca Leftwich
5. John Augustine Leftwich
If you would like a copy of the case, which includes a LOT of excellent genealogy date, please let me know!
Thanks,

Hi Lisa,

Thank you!
Rebecca
I’m embarrassed that this message is a year old and I’ve never seen it. I would love to have a copy of this case, as I am a descendant of John’s. Will you attach it to an email or send a hard copy? I will be happy to pay you for copies and postage if that’s the case.
Thank you so much!
