Augustine Leftwich Jr was a soldier in the Revolution of 1776, serving as first lieutenant in his brother’s (Captain Thomas Leftwich) Company. In October, 1780, he was made a captain in Colonel William Trigg’s Regiment of Virginia Militia (Bureau of Pensions, Rev. War, Washington, DC). He died intestate, leaving among other personal property nineteen slaves and $400.00 in cash. He was a man of considerable wealth for his day, as is evidenced by the large amount of land which he owned in Bedford County.
